
The Westview Warriors became the first school to win back-to-back state title in the multiple-class format With a 59-53 triumph over Winchester in the Class 2A state championship March 25, 2000 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Warriors never trailed, and rode hot three-point shooting to take a 16-4 early lead to proved decisive. Westview (25-3) was led by Adam Bontreger who came off the bench to score 16 points, 10 above his season average. Mark Miller scored 13 points, 11 coming in the first quarter, on five-of-10 shooting from the field and three-of-five from the three-point arch. Winchester (22-6) trailed 40-25 at halftime, but managed to outscore Westview 19-7 in the third quarter to stay within striking distance. The Golden Falcons punctuated their rally on Joel Weigand's 30-foot jumper as the quarter ended and Westview holding a 47-44 edge. Winchester, who saw four starters score in double figures, committed only four turnovers in the first half, none in the third quarter and only two in the fourth quarter, but never got closer than three points in the second half. Leading Winchester was Scott Study, the Trester Award recipient, with 13 points and eight rebounds, Shean Bosworth with 10 points and six rebounds, Weigand with 11 points, and Tyler Clevenger with 10 points before retiring midway through the third quarter with a knee injury. Westview, who defeated Paoli in the 1999 Class 2A state championship game, becomes only the 14th team to win consecutive boys basketball state titles, and the first since Ben Davis (1995, 1996).
